 The blueberry is an amazing fruit and whether we want to admit it or not the blueberry is as Canadian as it gets. We need more national symbols that we can all be proud of. So why not make the blueberry the official National Fruit of Canada?!
Can you name another fruit that originated in Canada and that has grown to international fame? I don't think there is another. Can you name another fruit that grows wild in every province and territory of Canada? I think the blueberry may be the only one. There are annual blueberry festivals in every corner of our country. You won't find that anywhere else in the world. The blueberry and its place in our culture is unique to Canada.
It's also a unifying symbol. The English love them. The French love them. The First Nations folks all love them too. Even the Inuit way up there on the tundra celebrate the annual blueberry picking. It's hard to get us Canadians to agree on much. But on this we can agree.
So please join us in moving this grassroots campaign forward. Tell your friends and family. And of course don't forget to eat them. As often as you can! After all, the blueberry is special because it tastes so good!!
